Are you looking for a way to provide feedback or suggestions for future jazz festivals in Philadelphia, PA? Join us on February 10, 2024 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center for a full day of educational and jazz clinics. School ensembles, vocal groups and soloists will have the opportunity to perform in a competitive or non-competitive class. After their performance, they will receive constructive verbal feedback from the judges and assistants. At the end of the night, the top 4 teams from each division will be announced at the awards ceremony.
A full summary of the competitive groups will be published at the end of the festival. Non-competitive groups will not be included in that summary. Educational clinics and school performances are free for all attendees. The festival is a tribute to Max Roach (1924—2000), a leader of the civil rights and social justice movements, whose boundless virtuosity and infinite musicality made him a legend of modern jazz drumming. It is also an opportunity to celebrate the bustling community of black creators and activists living in the Twin Cities and open a space for a conversation about their struggles. If you want to fully immerse yourself in all forms of music at one of the best concert markets in the country, this is the festival for you.
The Max Roach Jazz Festival has gone through many different incarnations over the years, but it has always been a positive force in the music world. It is held every July in Union Park, a green gateway near the city center known for its stunning cityscapes as a backdrop. Much of what makes a festival great is completely subjective, but most fans who enjoy and attend festivals have seen some part of their lives affected by the experience. If you have any feedback or suggestions for future jazz festivals in Philadelphia, PA, please share them with us!.
